DISCOVERY
Invite the child to discover dental floss. Show them how soft and flexible it is, whether it is string floss or a floss holder. Let the child hold and feel, and explain that it’s like a little magic tool to keep teeth super clean.
EXEMPLE / EDUCATION
Show the child how to gently pass the floss between their teeth. You can demonstrate this in front of them or help them use the floss on their favorite toy. Explain that it helps catch tiny bits of food and germs that the toothbrush can’t always reach.
TAKE TURNS
Take turns using the floss on each other or on yourself, making gentle movements. It can be fun to both count each cleaned space. Once again, integrating a countdown out loud will be effective!
ENACTMENT
Let the child use the floss themselves, help them, or do it for them. Gradually increase the time and the number of teeth. Remember to count with them and praise them for each little success.
